Kilkee Sea Caves
Ireland · Ireland
The Carboniferous limestone cliffs south of Kilkee in County Clare are riddled with sea caves, arches, and surge channels carved by Atlantic swell over millennia, forming one of Ireland's most dramatic underwater landscapes. The Pollock Holes — natural rock pools connected to the open sea — and the adjacent cave systems create a labyrinth of passages accessible to recreational divers at multiple skill levels. Strong surge inside the caves concentrates nutrients and supports dense communities of hydroids, nudibranchs, and filter feeders plastering every surface in vivid colour.
