Shoals of pollock patrol the surge channels and cave entrances at Kilkee, using the complex topography to ambush sand eels and sprats swept through with the tidal flow. Larger individuals exceed 70 cm and their bronzed flanks flash in the shafts of light filtering through sea arches. They are the apex visual spectacle on most dives here, with schools sometimes numbering hundreds of fish swirling through archways.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
