Oceanic manta rays cruise the productive upwelling edges surrounding the aggregation zone, using the same nutrient-rich currents that attract the whale sharks. They are encountered singly or in small groups, often performing barrel-roll feeding sequences near the surface. Their presence alongside whale sharks makes this one of the few places on Earth where two of the ocean's largest filter feeders can be observed simultaneously.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
