Sighting evidence at South Bay (Nan Wan), Kenting National Park

Map pufferfish move slowly across the reef at Nan Wan, browsing on hard coral polyps and sponges with fused beak-like teeth. Their intricate labyrinthine skin patterns make each individual identifiable, and several appear to be resident over multiple dive seasons. At rest they settle into sandy depressions between coral heads and are sometimes overlooked by divers scanning for larger animals.
