A resident Napoleon wrasse of considerable size — estimated at over one meter — patrols the outer coral ridges of Nan Wan, known to local operators who encounter it on most morning dives. These large humphead wrasse are long-lived, slow-reproducing fish that benefit enormously from national park protection, and Nan Wan's resident individual has been observed for several years. They are curious about divers and will sometimes approach to within arm's reach.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
