Great barracuda form rotating schools of up to 200 individuals just off the Walung wall face, a behaviour associated with sites where strong current creates reliable prey concentrations. Individual fish can reach 1.5 meters in length and display the silvery flanks and sharp-toothed underbite that make them one of the reef's most visually arresting predators. The schools at Walung are resident rather than transient, meaning they are present on virtually every dive regardless of tide state.

Great Barracuda is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
