Grey reef sharks patrol the Walung wall from the drop-off edge to beyond 30 meters, with groups of three to eight individuals commonly seen during a single dive when a current is running. Kosrae's walls represent some of the highest grey reef shark densities in the Federated States, a reflection of the island's comprehensive marine protection and near absence of sport fishing pressure. These sharks interact with the barracuda schools in a loose predator guild that defines the mid-water ecology of the site.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
