Large scorpionfish rest motionless on the cave floors and boulder surfaces around Meganisi, relying on near-perfect camouflage to ambush passing prey. They are sit-and-wait predators that feed on fish and crustaceans, playing a key role in regulating prey populations within the cave ecosystem. Divers who develop an eye for their subtle outline are rewarded with close-up encounters at almost every dive.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
