Short-snouted Seahorse

Hippocampus hippocampus

Sighting evidence at Sivota Bay, Lefkada

The short-snouted seahorse is resident in Sivota Bay's sheltered seagrass beds throughout the warmer months, making the bay one of the most reliably productive seahorse sites in the Ionian. Males carry eggs in their brood pouch from April through August, and birth events can occasionally be observed by patient divers. The species is highly site-faithful, with individuals often returning to the same anchor points on seagrass blades across multiple dives.
