Houshi sees turtles at every depth zone of the reef, from juveniles grazing in the shallow terrace to large adults resting on the sand at 18 meters. Multiple turtles are typically visible simultaneously along any given section of the fringing reef, and it is common to surface-swim over three or four individuals without descending at all. Their foraging behavior on algae-encrusted rubble is particularly observable here, offering divers a window into turtle ecology beyond simple resting encounters.

Green Sea Turtle is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
