Little Liuqiu hosts the highest density of green sea turtles in Taiwan, and Vase Rock is their principal gathering point — an estimated 50 to 100 individuals use the island's waters year-round, and a significant fraction congregate at this site daily. Turtles here are calm and accustomed to divers, often resting motionless on the sand and allowing close observation without disturbance. Conservation guidelines established by the island's dive operators require a 1.5 meter approach distance, and the turtles' relaxed behavior reflects years of respectful human interaction.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
