Flabellina verrucosa

Sighting evidence at Henningsvær, Lofoten Islands

Flabellina verrucosa is the most conspicuous of the many nudibranch species found at Henningsvær, its cerise-tipped cerata catching the light against the pale rock substrates of the shallow reef. It feeds primarily on hydroids and is most abundant in areas of moderate current where its prey thrive. The combination of cold, nutrient-rich water and diverse substrate types around Henningsvær supports an extraordinary nudibranch community that draws macro photographers from across Europe.
