Ocean triggerfish are a reliable open-water species above the wall edge at Conception Island, their bulky oval bodies and blunt teeth making them easy to identify. They build nesting depressions on sandy patches at the base of the wall and will aggressively defend their eggs against approaching divers during breeding season. Outside nesting they are curious and bold, often following dive groups along the wall.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
