Bull sharks frequent Danzante's deeper sandy channels between July and November, cruising at 25 to 35 m in the blue water adjacent to the reef. They are attracted by the concentration of fish biomass in this protected zone and by the cleaning stations that also draw mantas and larger reef fish. Encounters are incidental rather than baited, and the sharks typically maintain 5 to 10 m of distance from divers, circling once or twice before continuing their patrol.
