Loggerhead turtles are regular visitors to Çiftlik Bay, drawn by the extensive posidonia seagrass beds and the concentration of jellyfish, sponges, and molluscs that form their diet. Turkey's Aegean coast is one of the most important loggerhead nesting regions in the Mediterranean, and the bay's resident individuals are often identified individuals tracked by researchers from Dalyan. Encounters are most frequent in the early morning before boat traffic disturbs the feeding areas.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
