Cassidaigne Seamount
Marseille Calanques · France
The Cassidaigne seamount rises from 90 m to a summit at 32 m and acts as a current-baited aggregation point for some of the largest pelagic assemblages in the northwestern Mediterranean. Silver tornadoes of European barracuda hang mid-water above the summit while common dentex — bronze and bull-headed — patrol the flanks in loose hunting packs. Moray eels occupy every crevice and large conger eels coil beneath overhangs at depth.
