Dense schools of bigeye trevally swirl around the Saratoga's superstructure in tight, synchronized formations that confuse predators attempting to single out individuals — a schooling strategy that is itself a form of collective defense. They feed on small fish and invertebrates both day and night, and their spiraling schools create some of the most visually dramatic spectacles available to divers anywhere in the world.

Bigeye Trevally is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
