Snowflake morays inhabit the crevices within Coral Gardens' branching coral heads, hunting crustaceans at night using molariform teeth adapted to crush hard-shelled prey rather than pierce fish — an unusual dietary specialisation among morays. Their bold black-and-white patterning makes them one of the most photogenic eel species in Hawaii, regularly encountered on the reef's shallower coral terraces.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
