Potter's Angelfish

Centropyge potteri

Sighting evidence at Molokini Crater, Maui

Endemic to the Hawaiian archipelago, Potter's angelfish is found in higher densities inside Molokini than almost anywhere else in its range, grazing algae and detritus from the crater's basalt substrate. Its deep orange body fading to blue-grey distinguishes it from all other Pacific angelfish, and its strict endemism makes Molokini one of very few places on earth where it can be reliably observed.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
