The spotted eagle ray is identified by its white-spotted dark dorsal surface and elongated whip-like tail with venomous spines at the base. It cruises mid-water off the wall drop-off, typically alone or in pairs, and feeds on molluscs and crustaceans on the sandy bottom. Sightings at Flic en Flac peak during the October to April warm season when rays aggregate in warmer coastal waters.
