Banc du Geyser
Mayotte · France
A remote atoll-like shoal 60 kilometres north of Mayotte that barely breaks the surface at low tide, surrounded by pristine reef that almost no one dives due to the distance and the strong currents that whip across its flanks. Those who make the journey by liveaboard or fast charter encounter some of the most pristine coral in the entire Mozambique Channel, with vast table-coral formations untouched by anchor damage or bleaching, and a density of sharks that reflects the site's near-total isolation from fishing pressure. The outer wall drops sheer to 300 metres and concentrates tiger sharks, silvertip sharks, and bull sharks patrolling the blue edges of the plateau.
