Flabellina nudibranch

Flabellina affinis

Sighting evidence at Binidali Gorgonian Garden, Menorca

One of the most vivid nudibranchs in the Mediterranean, Flabellina affinis displays purple cerata tipped in intense violet and feeds exclusively on hydroids growing on the rocky transition zone below the meadow. It is seasonal, peaking in late spring through early summer. Experienced macro photographers plan Binidali dives around this window specifically to capture its striking colouration against the pale limestone substrate.
