One of the most visually striking organisms in the western Mediterranean, Paramuricea clavata forms fans up to a metre wide that filter plankton from passing currents. It is slow-growing and long-lived, taking decades to reach full size, which makes it highly vulnerable to anchor damage and warming events. The Ses Monges wall hosts some of the largest intact colonies on the island.

Red gorgonian is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
