Large morays occupy the deeper cave entrances and boulder piles, sometimes reaching 1.3 metres in length. They are highly site-faithful, returning to the same dens for years and acting as top ambush predators of the resident fish community. Cleaner wrasse stations near their lairs are a reliable sighting cue.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
