Montenegro hosts one of the Adriatic's healthiest long-snouted seahorse populations, clinging to posidonia seagrass and algae in the 5 to 12 metre shallows around Sveti Nikola's eastern flats. Males brood eggs in a ventral pouch and can be observed at the same anchor points for months, making this a reliable macro subject for patient photographers. They feed by ambushing small crustaceans, pivoting their fused snout with explosive speed.

Long-snouted Seahorse is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
