Small schools of scalloped hammerheads pass through Ras Lima from October to March, using the headland's strong currents to navigate between deeper offshore hunting grounds and the reef. Their laterally extended cephalofoils grant extraordinary electroreceptive sensitivity — particularly useful in the murky, plankton-rich water of the Hormuz Strait. Sightings are best in the early morning before currents strengthen, with groups of 5 to 20 individuals reported by consistent liveaboard operators.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
