Among the most formidable predators on Fahal's reef, giant trevally hunt cooperatively and have been documented targeting juvenile birds skimming the surface — an unusual feeding strategy unique to the Indian Ocean population. Individuals exceeding 1 metre in length patrol the current-swept corners of the island, ambushing reef fish from the blue. Their iridescent silver flanks and powerful crescentic tails make them unmistakable.
