Temple of Apollo Underwater
Naxos · Greece
Just off the entrance to Naxos Town harbour, the sunken foundations and scattered column drums of an ancient structure lie in the shallows, visible by snorkel or easy scuba beneath crystal-clear Aegean water. The site blends archaeology and marine biology seamlessly — ancient stone blocks are colonised by sponges, sea urchins, and Posidonia meadows, while sea bream weave between marble fragments that have rested on the seabed for more than two thousand years. This is one of the most accessible and historically evocative dives in the Cyclades.
