Large dogtooth tuna in schools of 20 to 50 individuals are resident at the pinnacle, circling the structure continuously at mid-water as they hunt smaller reef fish flushed upward by current. At Netrani, dogtooth tuna reach exceptional sizes — individuals exceeding a metre in length are common — likely because the site sits outside protected fishing zones for these large pelagics. Their iridescent blue-grey flanks and formidable dentition make them among the most impressive resident predators at the pinnacle.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
