Netrani Pinnacle
Netrani Island · India
Netrani Pinnacle is the crown jewel of Karnataka diving — an underwater seamount rising from 30 metres to within 10 metres of the surface where the island's famous whale sharks patrol the blue water from October through May in numbers unmatched anywhere else on India's west coast. Dense schools of dogtooth tuna and giant trevally orbit the pinnacle tip in tight formation, while large Napoleon wrasse hover near the structure and the surrounding blue holds the constant possibility of a passing oceanic manta. The pinnacle's exposed position in the Arabian Sea means visibility regularly exceeds 20 metres during the winter northeast monsoon season, delivering wide-angle spectacle rather than macro hunting.
