Giant trevally at Netrani Pinnacle form hunting coalitions that shadow whale sharks and tuna schools, capitalising on the confusion created by large predators to pick off disoriented reef fish. Schools of 30 to 100 juveniles are routinely seen spiralling around the pinnacle tip, while solitary large adults — some exceeding 80 centimetres — patrol deeper along the wall. Their aggressive hunting bursts produce some of the most dramatic mid-water action sequences found anywhere in Indian Ocean diving.

Giant Trevally is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
