The Caribsea hosts one of the most accessible and reliable sand tiger shark aggregations on the US East Coast, with individuals found resting in the holds year-round rather than the seasonal visits seen at deeper sites. Scientists believe the relatively shallow, warm conditions of this wreck create ideal thermoregulation conditions for resting sharks. The site forms part of the essential migratory corridor for sand tigers travelling between Florida and the northeast United States.

Sand Tiger Shark is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
