Loggerhead sea turtles frequent the City of New York wreck from spring through autumn, drawn by the abundant crustaceans and invertebrates colonising the structure. North Carolina's Outer Banks region is one of the most significant loggerhead nesting and foraging areas on the US East Coast, and offshore wrecks like this one serve as important foraging stations. Divers regularly encounter turtles resting on the hull sections or actively feeding on sponges, seemingly unbothered by close approach.

Loggerhead Sea Turtle is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
