U-352
North Carolina · United States
U-352 is one of the most intact WWII German U-boats accessible to recreational divers anywhere in the world, resting on her port side at 35 metres after being sunk by the US Coast Guard Cutter Icarus in May 1942. The conning tower, deck gun, and torpedo tubes are all recognisable, draped in soft corals and sponges that have transformed the wreck into an artificial reef. Sand tiger sharks circle the wreck year-round in a behaviour unique to this site, drawn by the baitfish sheltering inside the hull.
