Atlantic spadefish school in the hundreds around the superstructure of U-352 during summer months, forming shimmering silver clouds that drift through the conning tower. They are highly attracted to divers and will often hover within arm's reach, making them a favourite photographic subject. Juveniles mimic dead leaves floating at the surface, a remarkable camouflage strategy before they develop their bold striped adult colouring.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
