Green sea turtles are a defining presence on the YO-257, regularly resting on the wreck's coral-covered deck and ascending to breathe before settling back among the structure. Hawaii's green turtles are a federally protected population that has rebounded significantly since the 1970s, and the wreck functions as a cleaning station where small fish pick algae from their shells.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
