Plumose Anemone

Metridium senile

Sighting evidence at SS Breda Wreck, Oban

White and orange plumose anemones have colonised the entirety of the Breda's accessible surfaces, their feathery forms swaying in the slight current and creating textures that make the wreck immediately recognisable in photographs. They are among the longest-lived invertebrates on Scottish wrecks, with established colonies persisting for decades and providing settlement substrate for dozens of associated invertebrate species. Their density here makes macro photography rewarding even without moving from a single location.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
