Bumphead parrotfish transit Mwahnd Passage during early morning hours on certain days, using it as one of several routes between outer-reef feeding grounds and inner lagoon spawning aggregation areas during specific months of the year. Their presence is unpredictable but the passage walls and coral garden give context to their feeding behaviour that is harder to observe at the more current-swept northern passes. Divers who time a shallow drift dive to coincide with the early morning transit window have the best chance of an encounter.

Bumphead Parrotfish is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
