Caja de Muertos hosts recovering stands of elkhorn coral in the shallows, a species that was nearly wiped out across the Caribbean by disease and bleaching events. Their return here is considered one of Puerto Rico's most significant reef conservation success stories, with juveniles now visible alongside adult colonies.
