Hakkai Maru
Rabaul · Papua New Guinea
The Hakkai Maru is a large Japanese transport ship lying at 30 to 45 meters, making it the deepest and most challenging of the main Rabaul wrecks and a favourite of technical divers pushing recreational limits. The deeper sections of the hull are largely intact and less visited, preserving extraordinary detail including cargo hold contents and engine room machinery in near-pristine condition. The upper decks at 30 meters are within advanced recreational range and host some of the most dramatic coral formations in Simpson Harbour, with sea fans exceeding a meter across.
