A large Napoleon wrasse has become the unofficial resident of the Hakkai Maru's upper superstructure, regularly patrolling the area between 20 and 30 meters and approaching divers with the curious, unhurried confidence typical of its species. These long-lived fish establish individual territories around structural features in their environment, and this individual has been known to local operators for several years. Their presence on a wreck site signals low fishing pressure and stable reef conditions in the surrounding harbour.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
