Enormous schools of lyretail anthias envelop the Keiten Maru's superstructure in a perpetual orange-and-pink cloud, feeding on zooplankton carried through the harbour on tidal currents. These haremic fish maintain strict social hierarchies, with dominant males patrolling the perimeter while females school more densely around the protected stern. Their abundance on this wreck is an indicator of clean, plankton-rich water and the shelter the hull provides from stronger open-harbour currents.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
