Pointe des Aigrettes
Réunion Island · France
A pronounced rocky headland south of Saint-Gilles where the reef drops away in a series of steps before hitting a steep wall at 20 metres. The point generates localised upwellings that attract large schools of parrotfish and a permanent population of moray eels in the boulder zone. Occasional humpback whales pass offshore on their northern migration between June and September, audible underwater before they are visible.
