Yellowmargin moray

Gymnothorax flavimarginatus

Sighting evidence at Pointe des Aigrettes, Réunion Island

The yellowmargin moray is identified by its mottled brown body and the distinctive yellow edging on its dorsal fin. It is among the most commonly encountered morays on Réunion reefs, occupying crevices on the boulder zone at Pointe des Aigrettes. Like all morays it is a nocturnal hunter, but at this site individuals are frequently seen with their heads extended during the day, waiting for small fish to pass within striking range.
