Spotted morays are abundant residents of every overhang and crevice along the Arrecife del Medio wall, their cream bodies covered in dark brown spots making them distinctive even when only their head emerges from a hole. They hunt primarily at night, using olfaction rather than vision to locate octopus, fish, and crustaceans along the reef base. During the day they rest in predictable dens, and experienced dive guides at this site know the locations of a dozen individually recognisable eels that have occupied the same crevices for years.
