Yellowfin tuna patrol the open-water margins of Cap Est during the cooler months when upwelling raises productivity along the eastern coast. They hunt in coordinated packs that drive baitfish toward the surface, creating boil-ups visible from boats. A large adult can exceed two metres and 200 kg, making them among the most powerful pelagics encountered on drift dives here.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
