Yellowfin tuna occasionally approach the outer wall in fast-moving schools chasing baitfish driven against the reef by currents, their metallic yellow and blue flanks flashing in the clear water. These open-ocean predators connect the deep pelagic ecosystem to the reef, bringing nutrient pulses to the shallower zone and creating hunting opportunities for smaller predators following in their wake.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
