Red lionfish are ambush predators that hover motionless near structural complexity — iron cannon and encrusted fittings provide ideal habitat. Their venomous dorsal spines are purely defensive; they hunt by cornering small fish against hard substrate with outstretched pectoral fins. They are naturally part of Indo-Pacific reef ecosystems and occur at normal densities on this wreck.
