Neptune's Grotto
Capo Carbonara · Italy
Grotta di Nettuno at Capo Caccia is one of the Mediterranean's most spectacular sea caves — entered through an arched sea-level portal, the dive weaves through cathedral chambers encrusted with living red coral, white stalactites that formed when sea levels were lower, and walls blanketed in sponge and gorgonian. The red coral colonies here are among the densest documented in the western Mediterranean, the result of decades of protection under the Capo Caccia — Isola Piana Marine Reserve. Divers encounter lobster, moray eels, and shoals of amberjack in the cavern zones where filtered light creates extraordinary underwater photography conditions.
