Greater amberjack are large, fast-moving pelagic predators that hunt at cave entrances and along steep walls where open water meets structure. Groups of 10 to 30 individuals often patrol the outer cavern zone at Neptune's Grotto, using the light-dark boundary to ambush smaller fish. They are bold and curious, frequently approaching divers at close range, and their speed and silver flanks make them a dramatic encounter against the cave backdrop.
